The last week or so I have been wondering about this question. I saw something on facebook today which stated that craft (even poorly done) was good for your mental health.
As my best friend was saying yesterday, she won’t live long enough to do all the ideas she has saved in her head, on pinterest and in large room she is lucky to have to craft in. So she was stressed with the thought of that. Probably not good for mental health.
I’d like to think that when I craft, I am in my happy place. I am getting mental exercise and physical exercise (especially with big crochet hooks and thick yarn!). But the best part for me is when I get to share the enjoyment with others. That is why I call my Crochet Class I attend on a Tuesday night, my Therapy Session for the week.
Do you prefer to craft on your own or with others? Do you like to find crafts to do on your own or attend classes?
Is it good for your mental health?
Cheers K
Good question. I feel I get grumpy when I can’t craft whether it’s sewing, doodling or scrapbooking. Now I’m on holidays and yesterday I starting to miss home and my sewing machine ^^. It’s nice to share and learn from others but unfortunately none of my friends are interested. My family thinks I talk about Pinterest too much ^^

I don’t think it is possible to talk about pinterest too much! You’ll have to learn to hand stitch, crochet or knit so you can take it everywhere with you. I have to admit that I used to take 2 big plastic storage boxes of scrapbooking to do while on beach holidays. Husband and boys would go to the beach and I would stay at house and scrapbook then wander down to the beach to take more photos to scrapbook!

I craft for many reasons, but the main one is probably to cope with anxiety. I am not a person who can just sit still and relax. I find that I am happiest and the least anxious when I am keeping my mind and hands busy, so crafting is a perfect solution.

I understand that. I find that I can’t be calm unless I have completed some sort of craft for the day.

I haven’t had much experience crafting in group settings, but I did take a ceramics class in college with others. I think it’s great whether alone or in groups, for socialization or for individual therapy. I enjoy sewing because it allows me to focus, and that is therapeutic for me. Thanks for sharing!

You are more than welcome. I think I actually prefer to craft in groups – probably why I love my work! I like the ideas bouncing around the room and the friendly chatter as we craft.

I am a knitter so I am happy to do it on my own. I would like to learn other crafts with a group of people.
